Government Super Specialty Hospital Introduces ₹2500 Cancer Screening in Chennai – A Life-Saving Initiative

With a positive step towards public health care, the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (TNGMSSH) at Omandurar Estate in Chennai started a low-cost advanced cancer screening program from its Advanced Master Health Check-up center. The initiation of this screening program comes at the right time when early diagnosis is critical given the realities of the fight against rising cases of cancer in India.

The Titanium Package offers highly advanced cancer screening at a very low cost

On July 23, TNGMSSH introduced a new “Titanium Package” that will offer the early diagnosis of several cancers, employing tumour markers. The package, introduced by hospital director Dr. R. Mani, costs Rs. 2500 as opposed to the Rs. 20,000–25,000 price tag for cancer screening tests conducted by private labs.

The titanium package employs a straightforward blood test to detect occult cancers when they are in their asymptomatic, early stages. It checks for all types of tumor markers, such as

  1. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) for prostate cancer
  2. CA 125 for ovarian cancer
  3. CA 19.9 for pancreatic cancer
  4. Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) for liver cancer
  5. Thyroglobulin for thyroid cancer.

Recommended Follow-Up

The initial package also contains trial tests for cervical cancer via a Pap smear and breast cancer via a mammogram. The screening package also consists of an oral examination, an ENT consultation for throat/oral cancers, and a general physician consultation.

Personalized Future Testing in the Hospital

Physicians at the facility reported that after the screening is done, the facility facilitates individualized follow-up testing. In the event that clients need their subsequent tumor markers rechecked, they can undergo that specific test separately from the package deal, concurrently subsidized by continuing surveillance and low-cost health care.

The Center Has Screened Over 75,000 Persons Since Opening

Since its inauguration on June 8, 2018, the Advanced Master Health Check-up Centre has conducted screening tests for more than 75,000 individuals, contributing significantly towards preventive healthcare in the state. The center provides four standard preventive health packages as well.

  1. Gold Package – Rs. 1,000
  2. Diamond Package – Rs. 2,000
  3. Platinum Package—Rs. 3,000
  4. Platinum Plus Package—Rs. 4,000

All of which have a whole set of diagnostic tests in them, and they cover all the tests like complete blood count (CBC), liver function tests and kidney function tests, thyroid function test, lipid profile, ECG, ECHO, X-ray, ultrasound, Dexa scan, treadmill test, urine analysis, eye checkup, lung function test, etc.

A Major Step Towards Ambulatory Cancer Care

The Titanium cancer screening package represents TNGMSSH’s ongoing dedication to making preventive healthcare both accessible and affordable. By offering sophisticated cancer screening options at government-subsidized costs, the hospital is ensuring that preventive health and early detection are within reach of anyone, not just those who can pay out of pocket for private testing.

This is a significant move towards solving some of India’s biggest health challenges. Cancer remains the number one cause of death in India and can be most commonly attributed to better prospects when diagnosed at an early stage. Initiatives such as the Titanium package will play a significant role in reducing cancer fatality rates in India.

It is efforts like the Titanium package that will help us get closer to that vision of a Tamil Nadu where every individual has access to timely, quality health care, irrespective of circumstance and class.

Conclusion

The launch of the Titanium Package by the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital marks a transformative step in democratizing cancer care in India. With a price point of just ₹2500, this initiative bridges the gap between advanced diagnostics and affordability, ensuring that even the economically disadvantaged can access early cancer detection. As cancer continues to be a leading cause of death in the country, such programs are not just timely—they are vital. By focusing on early intervention through tumor marker screenings and personalized follow-ups, the hospital is setting a precedent for proactive, accessible healthcare.

If scaled and replicated across India, the Titanium Package could significantly reduce the cancer burden and save countless lives—moving us closer to a healthcare system where prevention is prioritized, care is equitable, and no one is left behind.
